October 27 202431/10/2024 If you’ve been thinking about playing pétanque, but feel intimidated about fronting up and looking foolish against experienced players, consider this.
Our last two club games have been won by a teenager who’s been playing only a few months and a guy with even less time on the pistes. 13 year old Memphis won her three games and took first prize two weeks ago, and then Mick Ryan from Kangaroo Flat won first prize (and a bottle of the club’s fine wine) last weekend. Mick has played only a few games with the Bendigo club, but he’s keen and has obviously been practising! He commented after his day at Maldon “ Thanks for a great day and great company and amazing coaching”. We’re a friendly mob, rest assured you’ll be welcomed and guided through the basics and who knows…?… after a short while - and the favours of the Pétanque gods - you could be a Memphis or a Mick! October 16 202416/10/2024 We’ll be joined by Bendigo Pétanque Club for the Spring Challenge for the Big Black Boule against Castlemaine U3A to be played on our home pistes on Friday 15 November with a 2pm start. 3 games will be played followed by Afternoon Tea. This is a very friendly, low key social event and is a great way for those new to the game to start playing in tournaments. Last Sunday. Two of our members - Viv and Andrew - are currently in Japan, so to riff on the Johnny Rivers song of 60 years ago: “Long distance information tells them Memphis won her three…” Great work Memphis, for a 13 year old teenager with only a few months' experience to clean up players who’ve been playing much longer than 13 years is quite something! Memphis was the only player to win three games, and following in her wake were two game winners Len Hall with 15 points and Phil Hopley and Richard Leach, both with 10 points. After missing play last fortnight through rain, it was a pleasure to see the sun shining and providing some warmth. We were pleased to welcome Karen Milner, who came for a come-and-try day; and as promised in our invitation, was presented with a bottle of MPC Whiplash White. It was also a pleasure to welcome back Sandy Noble after her recent run-in with a slippery floor. Our next fortnightly games, weather permitting, will be held on Sunday 27 October at 1pm on the St Brigid’s pistes. |
