Sunday 13th April14/4/2025 Gerry arrived early on Sunday with a lunch to share with Antoine, Viv and Andrew. What a lunch! Pear cider from Brittany, baguettes, pork & pistachio terrine, rabbit rillettes, mergeuez sausages, cheeses and a strawberry liqueur to round out un délicieux déjeuner (a splendid lunch!) As the last of the liqueur slipped down, there was unanimous agreement that it was the ONLY way to ease into a game of pétanque!
A warning to other clubs - beware of travellers! On Sunday we were pleased to welcome Wendy from the Bendigo club, Antoine, a fair dinkum Frenchman who has been working in the wine industry in Avoca, and Gerry “French Connection”. Marthe who travelled from his Smythesdale terrain. The two French marauders took 2nd and 3rd place on the day, but were upstaged by another traveller - Daryl from the Grampians club. Not only was Daryl the only 3 game winner, he took the prize for “first out of the hat”. The club has a number of inter-club competitions in May: the Autumn Challenge against Castlemaine U3A on Friday 9 May, our annual tournament, the Forster Cup, on Saturday 24 May and Round 1 of the Golden Boule round robin at Gisborne on Saturday 31 May. Our next games will be on Sunday 27 April at 1pm on the St Brigid’s pistes. All welcome, as you are to training/practice on every Thursday at 4pm. Sunday games 30th March.1/4/2025 ![]() Sunday’s games attracted a number of visitors, two-legged and four-legged. Alice (Lynette and Laurie’s collie) was her usual enthusiastic self, but we also were delighted to see this self-assured echidna ambling past the pistes before burrowing into a nearby pile of branches. Of the two-legged variety, it was a great pleasure to welcome David Shaw for his first games with us. An experienced player and highly qualified umpire, David was soon besieged with requests for interpretations and rulings of some finer points of pétanque rules. Welcome David, we’ll try to back off with the questions and let you just play the game! We were also joined by Elizabeth (aka EC) for her first club games. EC has played with Maldon’s Sociable Pétanque group for some time and blended in seamlessly, winning her first game 13-0! And another visitor enjoying his first games with us was Dennis from the Bendigo Petanque group, who was presented with one of the club’s house wines, the formidable Whiplash White. Only three players won their three games, Susan in first place followed by Andrew and Jenny. |
